Doha: The United States and Iran have reached a peace agreement, bringing an end to months of tensions that destabilised the region and impacted the global economy. The deal is expected to mark the conclusion of a conflict that had raised serious concerns over security and stability in the Middle East.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on X on Monday that a peace agreement had been reached between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran. He said both sides had agreed to an immediate and permanent cessation of military operations across all fronts, including Lebanon.

According to reports, the formal signing ceremony of the agreement is scheduled to take place in Switzerland on June 19.
U S President Donald Trump confirmed the development through his Truth Social platform, stating that the agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran had been finalised. He further announced that authorisation had been granted to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and lift the U S naval blockade imposed on Iran. ‘Let the oil flow,’ Trump remarked.
The breakthrough follows months of diplomatic efforts marked by stalled negotiations, military exchanges, and strong rhetoric from both Washington and Tehran.
Al Jazeera had reported on Sunday, citing Iranian media outlets, that a Qatari delegation had arrived in Tehran to advance talks between Iran and the United States.
According to Iran’s official news agency ISNA, the mediation team was led by an adviser to Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
Al Jazeera, quoting the Tasnim News Agency, said the delegation’s visit aimed to review the latest developments in the diplomatic process between Iran and the United States.
Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani welcomed the agreement and expressed gratitude to Pakistan and all regional and international parties that contributed to creating favourable conditions for the understanding.
In a post on X, Sheikh Mohammed reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to supporting all initiatives aimed at strengthening regional and international security and stability through dialogue and peaceful means.
The ceasefire agreement is broad in scope. In addition to halting military operations within Iran, Washington and Tehran have committed to ending military activities across all active theatres of conflict, with Lebanon specifically included in the arrangement.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had earlier indicated that significant progress had been achieved in the peace process, stating that both parties had agreed on a final mutually accepted draft and that peace had never been closer.
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, also confirmed that the agreement with the United States had been finalised. Speaking during a telephone interview on state television, he said the official signing ceremony would take place in Switzerland on Friday.
He further stated that an immediate and permanent end to the war and military operations across various fronts, including Lebanon, would be announced.
Gharibabadi added that the U S naval blockade against Iran would also be lifted with immediate effect.
